Super Robot Wars Alpha Gaiden là phần ngọai truyện thứ nhất trong sê-ri Robot War Alpha , tiếp theo từ Super Robot Wars Alpha .
Super Robot Wars Alpha Gaiden là game đầu tiên trong Super Robot Wars đă tạo dựng được những nét đặc sắc cho những hệ thống sau này cũng như được công nhận là chuẩn mực trong từng phiên bản Super Robot Wars, đặc biệt là hệ thống hỗ trợ tấn công (Support Attack) . Game cũng bao gồm rất nhiều những sê-ri hiếm như Gundam X , Turn-A Gundam và Xabungle (lần đầu tiên xuất hiện trong game).
Alpha Gaiden cũng bao gồm sự xuất hiện lần cuối cùng của Maso Kishin Banpresto Originals từ các mẫu Alpha và những nhân vật khác bên cạnh Masaki với Cybuster , Shu với Granzon, Lune và Valsione. Mặc dù nhiều fan nghi ngờ nguyên nhân là do kẽ hở trong chuyện bản quyền với Winkysoft , nhưng chính tác giả SRW đă trả lời trong một cuộc phỏng vấn rằng ông muốn dành sự chú ư nhiều hơn đến những Banpresto Originals khác v́ phiên bản Super Robot War trước đă bao quát khá kĩ lưỡng về tuyến nhân vật Maso Kishin .

Super Robot Wars Alpha Gaiden, for the PlayStation is the first sidestory in the Super Robot Wars Alpha series, continuing from Super Robot Wars Alpha.
Super Robot Wars Alpha Gaiden was the first game in the Super Robot Wars series to feature many of the systems now considered standard, notably the Support Attack system, which has been included in every Super Robot Wars series ever since. The game also included several rare series choices, such as Gundam X, Turn-A Gundam and Xabungle (all of which debuted in the game).
Alpha Gaiden also included the final appearance of the Masō Kishin Banpresto Originals in the Alpha series, and the last appearance of the characters besides Masaki and Cybuster, Shu and Granzon, and Lune and Valsione. Although many fans suspected this is due to copyright backlash with Winkysoft, it is stated in an interview with the creator SRW that he merely wants to give more plot attentions towards the other Banpresto Originals, considering the previous Super Robot Wars titles have dealt with the Masō Kishin plots rather extensively.
